Three years ago on this date, Dennis Lanham and I were preparing for the February 4th launch of inaugural cohort of the Black Corporate Board Readiness (#BCBR) program at Santa Clara University. We chose the launch date to honor #BlackHistoryMonth. Nine cohorts comprising over 250 Alumni (see https://lnkd.in/gKvNfadB) have completed the BCBR program, which has grown into a family, a community, some say a movement. We will launch Cohort 10 (C10) this February. Despite headwinds to #DEI, we continue our ambition to drive authentic diversity on public and private corporate boards for two reasons: diversity at every level of organizations, organisms, and ecosystems leads to better outcomes and more resilience; and, it is a powerful way to 'bend the arc of history towards justice.'I encourage everyone to subscribe to Equal Justice Initiative's daily History of Racial Injustice, today's opportunity for learning below. As we collectively learn the truth of history, I invite you to reflect on the powerful words of St. Ignatius of Loyola: "Love ought to show itself more in deeds than words." We have a long way to go, and we must walk together. #corporategovernance #boarddiversity #racialjustice https://lnkd.in/gGkmgdAe

From a Macro-Len... this is something that transcends the US - let alone Richmond - into the rest of the world... the shattered social contract of governments has gone from a low, yet escalating whine... to a high pitched scream. And this is before say, a serious multi-year recessionThe song has the underlying elements of the rise of candidates such as Trump. Love him, hate him... that's besides the point, if there were no serious structural issues songs like "Rich Men North of Richmond" would not be catching fire... Also frustrations around tax, incumbent interests, dated systems & processes... are felt across the spectrum from right to left... Its just that a lot of the incumbents who heavily influence the narrative - traditional media, now known as the click-bait media - tend to stay wrapped in an ideological theoretical reality, that everyone is on the same playing field, is equal, etc... hence its a simple case of income/wealth/resource distribution. Thats some serious Merry-Poppins sh*t... A bigger bucket (more tax) with holes (inefficiencies & waste), is still a bucket with holes... it solves no structural long-term issues #Trump #ShatteredSocialContract #WokeMedia #ClickBaitMedia #RichMenNorthOfRichmond #Incentives #Crypto #US2024Elections #Biden #Taxes #LackOfAccountability #LackOfTransparency

San Mateo County Democratic Party Chair

If you live in Redwood City, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, or eastern Menlo Park, I am on your March 5th Democratic Party Presidential Primary Election Ballot. I am running for the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee. See karenmaki.com. What is Central Committee? The county central committee make endorsem*nts in local county, city council, and school board races and can influence the outcome of races. The County Central Committee endorsed in the District 1 and 4 County supervisorial races. A county central committees also take positions on county policy and state legislation by passing resolutions. For example, a county carty has opposed trying youth as adults and supported sheriff oversight. A county central committee can impact on local races and policies, which is why so many people are running. County Democratic Central Committee seats are hotly contested this year. There are twice as many candidates running as there are seats in all five districts. Many Democrats are competing for the opportunity to lead the County Party, including a former state senator, former mayors, city council members, and a county supervisor. Politicians who had previously delegated the grassroots efforts of managing the local party to activists are now seeking positions on the Central Committee.Candidates and their supporters are spending more money and utilizing more ways of influencing the public's vote than probably ever before. Candidates have websites and Facebook pages, host rallies, make phone calls, walk precincts, yard signs, and send mailers.

Vote Karen Maki for Central Committee karenmaki.com

Did you see The Black Public Defender Association's most recent report: "Reimagining Public Safety?" This report is the result of a year-long project that dives into Black Chicagoans' definitions of public safety. Collaborating with BlackRoots Alliance, Cook County Public Defender, and Northwestern University, the report emphasizes community voices, aiming to inform policymakers, funders, activists, and community groups for sustainable public safety reforms. Austin, a rapidly growing city, is facing deep opportunity and housing crises that disproportionately impact African American communities. As the area has become less affordable, many long-time Black residents can no longer call their hometown neighborhoods home. Additionally, ongoing racial inequities and a lack of culturally sensitive spaces have exacerbated unwelcoming feelings in some areas. To attract and retain Black talent, the city must prioritize expanding affordable housing options like rent control and land trusts. Increased support for Black-owned businesses, arts, and community centers through targeted grants would strengthen identity and belonging. Training and elevating Black civic leaders will also be key to catalyzing the Black population's growth. These leaders can advocate effectively for their communities’ needs. By addressing challenges to affordability, representation, and leadership development, Austin can become a more equitable place where diversity thrives for years to come. #AALI

Today I discovered something amazing. The link between Tau half-life and its velocity and the mass of the electron. We have much to learn about the non-physical attributes of human biology and their implications for biological heath and wellbeing.I saw the following video and understood the pain and suffering that scientists have created in using that poorly thought out approach to prevent viral transmission.IgG is not able to prevent transmission. It is not resident in epithelial linings of the lung and respiratory system. Why do people consider that approach to be useful, I never understood. Biology is complicated. More complicated than physics. More complicated than cosmology. We need to understand 13.8 billion years of evolution as a biologist. Using a technology that is only a few years old without any scientific robustness to its investigation was always going to lead to a global disaster. The train wreck is just starting.
